According to Paula Rutledge, President of Legacy MedSearch, 2016 has been the strongest year yet for Orlando-based Medtech recruiting company. Recently Paula was asked to provide insights on current industry trends for the September 2016 issue MDDIonline.com. Here are the most interesting highlights:

  • “Medtech Salary Survey reported a median salary of $118,750. That’s an $11,750 increase over the median salary reported in the 2015 salary”
  • “I’m hearing a division between traditional med device—implants, specifically—and medtech, anything with a battery, a sensor, virtual reality, any kind of tech . . .” she said. “All the [companies] that we’re working with that are doing massive hires have a tech component.”
  • “Rutledge said someone at a well-known venture capital firm recently told her that everything the firm is evaluating for potential investments has a health IT or medtech component.”
  • “We’ve been very successful at pulling out incredible, high-level talent to work for much smaller companies with more of that early-stage excitement,” Rutledge said. “With some of the mergers . . . there’s so many of those folks who have been displaced or under-utilized.”

Job satisfaction in the MedTech industry is at an overall high and actively looking candidates have decreased slightly. We are now led to this question: When is the best time to look for a new job? Is it at the top of one’s game as some say? Millennials in particular should be careful of living up to their job hopping stereotype which may deprive them of the job stability and learning curve sought by hiring managers. On the other hand, linear experience doesn’t always pay off per Paula Rutledge who reports companies wanting to see candidates who know how to do things more than one way.
