In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers across the world have been active on social media displaying the painful results of wearing medical personal protective equipment (PPE) for long hours on the job. Face masks, surgical and N95 masks, eyewear, facial hoods and other protective measures have resulted in red, sore, irritated skin and even occasional bruising and abrasions.

SpiderTech, based in Toronto, Ontario, has worked with local hospitals and found their gentle line of mini i-STRIPs kinesiology tape has been very successful at providing an easy and comfortable line of defense against these symptoms of long hours in PPE.

“After receiving free samples of SpiderTech’s mini i-STRIPs, they have become quite popular,” says Dr. Marc Jeschke, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCSC, a senior scientist based in Toronto, Ontario. “All day long, our teams have had to wear face masks resulting in sores and irritated skin in this sensitive area. The SpiderTech strips work so well as a protection layer that our staff can work pain-free again and protect their skin.”

SpiderTech is now looking to develop relationships with other hospitals and clinics to help staff that may be experiencing these same issues. SpiderTech asks that procurement staff in hospitals and clinics contact them at info@spidertech.com for their face protection with gentle mini i-STRIPs kinesiology tape.

The mini i-STRIP kinesiology tape face protection is made of 100% cotton SpiderTech kinesiology tape and essentially acts as a “second skin” that is comfortable, breathable and provides an excellent barrier between the user’s skin and their mask, eyewear and other PPE. While the tape can be placed just about anywhere on the skin to protect against PPE irritation, the most common application uses three gentle mini i-STRIPs, shaped in a triangle, one across the nose and the other two at either end running down towards the chin to protect from face mask pressure. The adhesive is a gentle, gel-like, latex-free adhesive that maintains a seal on the skin without irritation and can be removed with no pain or skin damage.
