World’s Smallest Clot Retriever for Strokes Receives CE Mark

Rapid Medical, based in Yokneam, Israel, won European regulatory approval to introduce its TIGERTRIEVER 13, the narrowest clot retriever now available for use in treating ischemic stroke. The device can be used in vessels as small as 1 millimeter in width and up to a maximum of 2.5 mm, where larger retrievers would be appropriate. It works through a microcatheter that has an outside diameter of 1.3 French, getting into brain vasculature previously impossible to access.

Unlike many existing devices, the entire TIGERTRIEVER is visible under fluoroscopy. It does feature radiopaque markers that make positioning and measurements easier.

“TIGERTRIEVER 13 is a very important addition to the ischemic stroke device market,” noted Professor René Chapot, Head of Department of Neuroradiology & Radiology, Krupp Krankenhaus, Essen, Germany. “For the first time ever, we have a tool that is dedicated to more distal occlusions. These occlusions can have a dramatic disabling effect on patients and until now there was little to be done for them. Using the Tigertriever 13 we were able to retrieve clots from an MVO that was not treatable until now.”
